About The Lions Club
Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival is a project of the Austinmer/Thirroul Lions Club Inc. Beginning in 1959, the Club’s members have worked tirelessly over the years on fund-raising projects. The Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival is a celebration of community and the arts. It provides a platform for exposure and development for talented local artists and an opportunity for the community at large to celebrate all that is great about Thirroul.
As a not-for-profit event run by a volunteer committee, all funds raised are donated back to the community. Some projects that have been funded include equipment for local surf clubs, art supplies for schools, establishment funds for the local Men’s Shed program, local charities and equipment to assist local families in need caring for relatives with disabilities.
Over $800,000 has been raised since 1993, all of which has gone back into the community.
Once a year, Thirroul comes alive with the Festival spirit: the Art Prize Exhibition runs over a whole weekend, with the formal Opening and awarding of prizes on Friday night at the Thirroul Community and Library Centre. The exhibition is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday until 2pm.
Then Sunday is a big day at the Thirroul Beach Reserve, by Thirroul Beach. It’s a family fun day with carnival rides, market and food stalls, kids’ activities, live music and more.
